As someone may have seen, some videos are subtitled in languages other than English to assist students who have problems to understand spoken English, this is a collaborative effort made by the own students in the first version of this course. You can also colaborate to complete or create new captions in the languaje you use, the procedure is as follow:
1.-Go to Amara page for subtitling at http://www.amara.org/en/teams/coursera/p/ will appear all the videos available for subtitling from all courses, you can browse it choosing "Show All" in the left panel. By example the videos for Internet History, Security and Technonogy is located at
http://www.amara.org/en/teams/coursera/p/insidetheinternet
3.-Every video will show in the upper corner how many languages are available, by example "Welcome Part II" from the former link says "1 Language", double click on it and you will enter to the dashboard for edit the captions.
In the left panel appears "View Subtitles" and below (in this case) "English (100%)" and "Spanish (35%)" that means that is fully subtitled in English and someone started subtitlin in Spanish but is not complete.
4.-In the rigth hand appears the video, and at the bottom of it a combo window with languages say "English", if you click this combo will expand to other options "Subtitles Off"; "English (332 lines) checked and "Spanish (35%)". Besides this window another one expands with more options as follow:
You choose what you want, by example in this case you may want to improve Spanish, so choose Spanish tab and then "Improve These Subtitles"
5.-Then another window to add captions will apear as follow
As you can see, some captions are added in Spanish, bellow the English ones, but the last window for spanish is empty, because the work is done to this point. You may continue translating and adding captions
6.- You may use "Need to stop and come back later? Save and Exit" if you are not finished yet or "Done?" buttom if you finished.
And that´s all folks!
P.S.
To speed up the process you can download the English srt file from the list of videos
This is a plaintext archive, you can translate automatically with Google translator and then charge using the option "Already have subtitles for this video?" as follow
Then you upload the file with captions and edit correcting the mispells of the automatic translation. BEWARE to ensure that the srt file corresponds with video, if there is some mistake is a mess to eliminate the translation (I mistake once and can´t fix it)
P.S. 2 The main page of Amara is here, for subtitling any video, in general
